The 1940s

Paul Beck sent us this picture which is dated 12/29/47. So the part that is now the balcony of the bar area was already there in 1947. It is interesting (to me anyway) that the extension is not at street level but several steps up. Today any public space is built with no steps.

The woodwork on the far end of the extension, which in 1947 housed a barber shop, seems to indicate the extension was built around the turn of the 20th century. At some point before December 1947, the facade of the shop to the left of the barbershop was updated with plate glass windows.

The two mansard buildings to the west have survived pretty much intact.
